The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) is a membership association and the legislated peak body for Victoria’s councils. Formed in 1879, the MAV is the official voice of local government in Victoria by the Municipal Association Act, 1907.
Today, the MAV is a driving and influential force behind a strong and strategically positioned local government sector. Their role is to represent and advocate the interests of local government, lobby for a 'fairer deal' for councils, raise the sector's profile, ensure its long-term security and provide policy advice, strategic advice, capacity building programs and insurance services to local government. The MAV’s motto is 'pro bono publico' – for the public good.
Through their activities, the MAV supports councils in improving the lives of all Victorians and you can help them in their valuable work by becoming their next Group Financial Officer.
Reporting to the CEO, the Group Financial Officer is responsible for providing strategic, commercially sound advice to the CEO, Executive leadership team and the Board in relation to the financial well-being of all the divisions within the MAV Group. (The MAV Group consists of three divisions – MAV, MAV Insurance and MAV WorkCare - and operates separate cost centers for each.) Working closely with the CEO, you will investigate alternate revenue streams and enhance the policies, procedures and systems to support more efficient Finance functions across the organisation.
This role is key in shaping the future direction of the MAV and will suit a values driven and experienced Chief Financial Officer / Group Financial Officer who is proactive, confident and who demonstrates commercial nous. The ability to balance strategic thinking with operational effectiveness and in providing strategic financial advice to a CEO and a Board are expected, as are CPA or CA qualifications. You will have experience leading a small team; a track record in continuous improvement and familiarity working with auditors. Of high regard would be experience working with insurance schemes. You will have experience working in local government, State Government, a statutory authority or the not for profit sector (or related). Furthermore, an appreciation of the complexities and nuances of working in a small organisation are highly regarded qualities.
