Job Description

Are you an experienced A07 Communications Officer who is available for a short-term contract? 

We are looking for:
  • A comms professional with demonstrated experience writing and implementing communication strategies for complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience of working closely with clients to develop the strategy and providing advice and guiding the approach
  • Very good stakeholder relationship skills; able to negotiate and influence outcomes
  • Knows when to manage upwards; comes to leaders with option and ideas – is a self-starter
  • Local, state or federal government experience ideal, but not necessary
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Used to working in a fast-paced environment; ability to ‘change direction’ quickly

Our contribution: The Communication and Engagement unit provides corporate governance, strategic direction and professional advice on communication to corporate and business areas within the department.Our focus: developing and managing internal and external communication activities, including communication strategies, policies and processes, media relations, online and multi-media communication, publications, events, and client and community engagement strategies.Your contribution: Work collaboratively and engage with a range of stakeholders to deliver strategic communication, engagement and marketing services by:
  • developing and managing integrated communication strategies and initiatives aimed at informing departmental staff, clients, stakeholders and the general public of departmental programs, policies and initiatives
  • providing strategic advice to senior management and other departmental staff on the effective management of communication and media issues and opportunities
  • providing strategic advice and direction on, and managing the publication of content across the department’s key communication channels, including its internet and intranet sites, Queensland Government web franchises, and social media channels
  • identifying and encouraging the development of opportunities to promote departmental programs and initiatives through the use of existing and new cost-efficient channels
  • managing the department’s participation in public events and community engagement initiatives.
What we’re looking forYour suitability for this role will be assessed against how you use your ability to:
  • provide strategic communication, engagement and marketing advice, and plan, implement and evaluate integrated complex communication strategies that meet the needs of a wide range of audiences (Vision)
  • develop and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the department, including senior executives and managers, project team members, specialist consultants, regional staff, suppliers and the media, responding to changes in client needs and expectations (Vision)
  • research, write and edit a wide range of documents and communication resources to a high professional standard, including speeches, media releases, marketing/advertising copy, feature articles and web content, as well as ministerial correspondence, briefing papers and complex submissions (Results)
  • manage and coordinate high level, wide-reaching communication projects, including campaigns, publications and events, from inception to completion, to ensure delivery within timeframes and budget. Communicate in a clear, concise and articulate manner, structuring written and oral communication to ensure clarity (Results)
  • take personal responsibility for accurate completion of work in a fast-paced team environment, handling multiple complex projects and media issues with competing deadlines and priorities (Accountability).
