About the organisation
safe steps is a Family Violence Response Centre that provides 24 hour, 7 days a week support services for women and their children experiencing domestic violence. safe steps is the primary contact and referral point for access to women’s refuges in Victoria.
It provides a range of complementary services, including:
- a telephone-based crisis response service that provides information, support, advocacy and referrals, and where necessary, emergency accommodation
- a high security supported accommodation service (safe house)
- support for women attending court on matters relating to family violence
- 24x7 telephone trauma counselling for women who have experienced family violence and/or sexual assault (1800 RESPECT)
With a newly formed leadership team and reporting into the Board, you will drive the operations for the organisation, ensure strategic objectives are met and develop a positive, collaborative and inspired workforce culture that draws out the best in people.
Given the changes taking place in the sector, you will lead a whole-of-organisation approach to improving service delivery and oversee the operational delivery of support services as the organisation enhances the way services are delivered now and into the future.
As the leader for the organisation, you will build and develop effective relationships with the funding bodies (Department of Health & Human Services and Medibank), sector partners and other related organisations to develop the best possible services at a holistic level, for women and their children who need them. Additionally, you will provide broader leadership within the sector for policy, strategy and advocacy at a national level and enhance the organisation’s profile, reputation and impact through having a presence and high visibility within the sector.
Finally, you will ensure sound financial and contract management occurs and that service performance, funding obligations and other key operational metrics are tracked, recorded and reported on regularly.
About the person
To be successful in this role you will need a proven record of enhancing an organisation’s workplace culture, environment and performance through an empowering and inspiring approach.
You will possess broad exposure to leading a service organisation with a preference for experience within the community services and/or not-for-profit sector and be known for your ability to build effective relationships with government agencies and stakeholders.
Being an innovator at heart, you will have experience leading change and being able to build continuous improvement into the daily practice of your workforce.
As an established leader, you have the ability to balance the strategic objectives with operational performance and bring a high level of positive energy, ambition and drive to make a difference.
