Rare opportunity for a seasoned finance executive to broaden your c-suite experience
- Executive leadership role driving strategy and financial performance
- Join one of Australia’s largest & fastest growing water utilities
- Purpose driven organisation
Urban Utilities is one of the largest water distributor-retailers in Australia owned by five participating councils (Brisbane City Council, Ipswich City Council, Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Scenic Rim Regional Council and Somerset Regional Council). It enriches quality of life through the delivery of drinking water, recycled water and wastewater services to over 1.6 million residents and over 31,000 commercial customers within South East Queensland - one of Australia’s fastest growing regions. This business boasts an asset base of more than $6 billion spanning from the Queensland/New South Wales border, west to Gatton, north to Kilcoy and east to Moreton. Due to the business’ long-standing and valued CFO moving on, Urban Utilities is now looking to recruit their new Executive Leader of Corporate & Finance.
This role was recently expanded beyond the traditional CFO responsibilities to create the Corporate and Finance (C & F) group, headed by this Executive Leader with a broader remit and portfolio. Reporting to the CEO, the Executive Leader, Corporate & Finance is a key, senior member of the Urban Utilities Executive Leadership Team, working in close partnership with the CEO, Board, Executive and the broader business. With six direct reports, this role oversees a team of over 100 employees and contractors across finance, strategy, procurement and supply chain, strategy and regulation, legal and corporate governance. Their purpose: to balance the needs of the business, our customers and shareholders to enrich quality of life. The team ensures that today’s decisions deliver lasting value whilst securing outcomes for tomorrow.
This role is pivotal in providing executive leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to achieve Urban Utilities strategic objectives. Although this role is responsible for ensuring financial sustainability and supporting growth (including financial reporting, internal audit and assurance), this position is not just about the numbers; it's about developing, planning and delivering on strategy to support the organisation’s future, and balancing the needs of Urban Utilities’ customers, community, and councils to ensure long-term financial sustainability and affordability.
A key measure of success will be the new executive leader’s ability to progress recent organisational changes made within Urban Utilities; empowering and inspiring the recently appointed leadership team to deliver and optimise performance. They will also oversee the strategic delivery of procurement and supply chain functions, internal audit and assurance, and provide strategic economic and regulatory advice and direction.
Our ideal candidate will be an accomplished senior finance professional (CPA, CA or equivalent) and executive leader, with proven experience leading and implementing strategy in a similarly complex, regulated or political environment. You excel in providing clear, transparent communication to the Board and key stakeholders, offering insights into the organisation’s performance, both positive and challenging. You are solutions-oriented, able to identify and resolve complex problems collaboratively, and you thrive under pressure while maintaining a calm and composed demeanor.
If you’d like to make a lasting impact in a purpose-driven organisation that drives value for customers, the community and shareholders, apply now and help to shape the future of Urban Utilities and South East Queensland.
