Executive Director Medicine & Ambulatory Services

Healthcare & Medical

  • Drive patient flow, performance and excellence in one of Qld’s fastest-growing health regions.
  • $335M portfolio | 1,100 FTE | Ipswich-based leadership role
  • Significant system growth and new infrastructure

West Moreton Health is one of Queensland’s most diverse and rapidly evolving health services, delivering care to over 300,000 people across Ipswich, Boonah, Gatton, Laidley, and Esk. Known for its innovation, commitment to health equity, and focus on holistic, community-based care, West Moreton is leading a new area of service delivery.

The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Executive Director Medicine & Ambulatory Services will lead a large and complex clinical portfolio (with a workforce of over 1100 FTE and a budget of $335M) encompassing emergency, rural, medicine and older persons services, specialty medicine and chronic disease management services and medical imaging. The role will be instrumental in implementing strategic organisational initiatives and optimising:

  • Emergency Department operations and performance
  • General Medicine and inpatient medical beds
  • Bed capacity planning, utilisation, and patient flow improvement
  • Integration of new medical infrastructure, including the commissioning of up to 200 additional beds

This is a strategically critical appointment at a pivotal moment for West Moreton Health. The region’s rapid population growth, combined with major capital investment, has created both challenge and opportunity - requiring a leader capable of driving performance uplift, operational efficiency and cultural alignment across multidisciplinary clinical teams.

You will play a key role in optimising patient flow and emergency performance, embedding data-led, evidence-based operational improvement, and ensuring WMH’s services are designed to meet both current demand and future expansion.

About You
You are an energetic, collaborative and data-driven healthcare leader who thrives in high-performance, high-pressure environments. With a proven track record leading large-scale health services or divisions, you bring a rare balance of operational rigour, clinical insight and transformational leadership.

Specifically, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated success leading clinical or operational services within a large, complex healthcare system.
  • Experience improving ED access, patient flow and bed utilisation, ideally in a multi-site or regional health service.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage and optimise similar sized budgets and workforces.
  • A strategic mindset – able to balance immediate operational priorities with long-term service planning and system growth.
  • Advanced communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to unite clinicians, executives, and partners around shared goals.
  • A track record in innovation, change management and cultural uplift, underpinned by a commitment to patient-centred, values-based care.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in medicine, business, management or health administration is highly regarded.
